James is a designer and maker working across scales in the built environment. A long term member of RARA he is also founding director of Collaborative Design and Build (Co-DB), where he combines his professional training with project management and construction experience to inform and enliven a wide variety of projects.
With his work focused around the empowerment of clients and communities through making he is developing a growing expertise in working with under represented groups throughout all aspects of design. Alongside running a broad range of large and small projects at Co-DB, James teaches Architectural Media at the Bartlett, UCL and on project leadership courses for sixth form and secondary age students. He is Lead Physical Designer at the award winning Pop Up Parks, working with the Design Council and a number of London boroughs. In 2015 James was a British Council ELEVATE Fellow, working on innovation and play within our urban environments.
James studied at The Bartlett for his BSc (RIBA 1) and then for his DipArch (RIBA 2) at The Cass, London Metropolitan University. Here he also completed his MA in Spatial Planning and Urban Design. He has worked in architectural practice on a number of complex public sector projects at Adams & Sutherland and for the Sorrell Foundation of their national program of architectural engagement in schools.
